What is happening?

Water Corporation’s authorised contractor Benang Energy Infrastructure, has completed work to replace 2.2 km of the Katanning to Kojonup pipeline in Katanning. The work was undertaken to reduce the risk of future leaks and breaks and will increase the reliability of water supply to customers.

This project is delivered in partnership with Water Corporation and is part of the $43.8 million Western Australia Connections package under the National Water Grid Fund (NWGF). The package of ten projects is jointly funded by the Australian Government ($20 million) through the NWGF and WA Government and partners ($23.8 million).

When is this happening?

Work commenced on the 22 May 2023. The work will take between 6 to 8 months, depending on factors such as ground and weather conditions.

Please note that work timeframes may be subject to change due to poor weather, poor ground conditions and supply chain restraints outside of our control.

Where is the work taking place?

Work will occur between the Pemble Street pump station, near Hassell Street, and Kojonup-Katanning Road (refer to map below). Work will mostly occur in the verge on the southern side of Pemble Street, Katanning. Access to verges will be required for the work. Work will be undertaken in a staged or progressive approach.

How will this impact me?

From mid-September there will be water outages as the new pipeline is connected. You will be notified if your property will be affected by the water outages.

The work will require open excavation to place the new pipeline. During the work, properties on the southern side of Pemble Street may have reduced access to their verge and driveways.

Single lane road closures will be required along the southern side of Pemble street throughout the work. Short complete road closures will be required at the Pemble Street intersections with Aberdeen St, Amherst St, Beaufort St, Blantyre St and Andover St.Traffic management will be in place. During connection works from mid-September there may be additional short temporary road closures. All necessary and essential traffic will be maintained.

Please continue to observe all road signs so we can ensure our staff all return home safely at the end of the day.

There will be an increase in noise, dust and activity during construction. Other impacts may include increased traffic and local road/pedestrian detours. We apologise for any inconvenience that you may experience from the work. Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

How will impacts be managed?

Residents with access via Pemble street will be notified before work impacting your access begins. Access during periods of work may be restricted. Our contractor will endeavour to keep you informed throughout the work to minimise access issues. Reinstatements of the verge, driveways and roads will be undertaken either during or following the work.
