Funding now available to kickstart community projects in the Kimberley

• Applications open for Water Corporation's Kimberley Community Grants Scheme
• Grants of up to $10,000 for Kimberley schools and not-for-profit groups
• $445,000 awarded since 2016 from sale of hay produced at Broome North Water Resource Recovery Facility

Water Minister Dave Kelly today announced the opening of Water Corporation's Kimberley Community Grants Scheme that offers individual grants of up to $10,000 to Kimberley schools and not-for-profit groups.

Delivered in partnership with the Lions Club of Broome, the scheme has provided $445,000 in funding since 2016 to 80 local organisations for projects that build an appreciation of nature, foster community wellbeing and make a positive difference to the lives of Kimberley residents.

Among last year's recipients was the Jarlmadangah Burru Aboriginal Corporation, which received funding to collaborate with renowned artist Mel McVee on a stunning welcome mural depicting local Indigenous Nyikina seasons.

East Kimberley Volunteer Sea Rescue Group used its grant to develop a free, user-friendly app that promotes boat safety and assists emergency services during critical sea rescue operations.

The Kimberley Community Grants Scheme is funded through the sale of Rhodes grass hay produced at Water Corporation's Broome North Water Resource Recovery Facility as an innovative, sustainable way to recycle the town's used water.
