Albany Athletics Club set to save with waterwise makeover
In addition, Albany plumbers M.R.S. Plumbing checked the club’s headquarters for leaks as part of a free plumbing service
Around 400,000 litres of precious drinking water – equivalent to 10 backyard swimming pools – will be saved by the Albany Athletics Club each year thanks to a waterwise makeover of its Sanford Road clubhouse.
Delivered by Water Corporation, the project saw outdated fixtures and fittings – some of which were installed more than 40 years ago – replaced with modern, water-efficient showerheads, toilets and taps.
In addition, Albany plumbers MRS Plumbing checked the club’s headquarters for leaks as part of a free plumbing service.
Water Corporation Great Southern Manager Adrian Stewart said by choosing waterwise fixtures and fittings, homeowners, businesses and community groups could significantly reduce water consumption and lower their bills.
“When you consider a modern dual flush toilet uses around 75 per cent less water than a single-flush system, it really demonstrates how effective waterwise fixtures are at saving water,” Mr Stewart said.
“This is especially important in the Great Southern where climate change is continuing to have a profound impact on the amount of rainfall we receive.
“This is why small changes to how we use water at home, in the workplace and across the community can really make a big difference.”
The retrofit was delivered under Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program, which provides offers and incentives to help regional Western Australians save water.
In 2022-23, the program saved an estimated 139 million litres of water – equivalent to 62 Olympic-size swimming pools – in regional communities through tailored support to Water Corporation customers.
For its part, the Albany Athletics Club is using its partnership with Water Corporation to help promote the waterwise message among members.
“This has been a fantastic project not only because our taps and toilets were quite old, but also because it’s been an opportunity to talk about the importance of being waterwise,” said club treasurer Barb Wilson.
“We’ve got waterwise posters up in the clubhouse and it’s been great to get some advice from Water Corporation on ways we can be more water-efficient into the future.”
New waterwise offers will be available to regional Western Australians in select towns from October. For more information visit Waterwise Offers.
