Funding now available to support grassroots projects in the Kimberley

Schools, community groups and not-for-profit organisations are being encouraged to apply for individual grants of up to $10,000 under Water Corporation’s Kimberley Community Grants Scheme.

Grant applications are now open for 2024, with funding available for projects making a positive impact on communities in the Kimberley.

Water Corporation’s North West Manager Sharon Broad said the scheme was designed to give grassroots organisations a helping hand.

“There are so many incredible projects that just need a bit of extra support to get off the ground, and that’s what we’re aiming to provide with this program,” said Ms Broad.

“If you’re a not-for-profit or school and want to deliver a project that supports and empowers people in the Kimberley, we really encourage you to apply.”

The scheme has been running since 2016 with almost $600,000 allocated to 105 local organisations since its inception.

In the most recent funding round, Broome North Primary School received funds to install Yawuru language signage to increase students’ connection to language and culture.

Another worthy recipient was the Fitzroy Valley Rodeo Club that was able to reestablish an equine therapy program for vulnerable and at-risk youth, following devastating floods in the area.

Kununurra Community Garden Kitchen used their grant to host a series of 10-year anniversary events and continue their mission to improve food security and education through gardening and permaculture.

The 2024 round of the Kimberley Community Grants Scheme is now open, and applications close Friday 26 April.
