Water efficient showerhead

  • Goldfields towns eligible for free Showerhead Swap
  • All Goldfields scheme water customers also eligible for Dual Flush Toilet Rebate
  • Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program to reach record 56 regional towns
  • Supports regional households to save precious water and reduce bills
  • Program focuses on towns reliant on independent surface and groundwater sources

Free waterwise offers are now available to residents of seven Goldfields towns, helping save precious drinking water in the lead up to another hot, dry summer.

Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program has, this year, expanded to a record 56 regional communities, prioritising schemes which are constrained or reliant on climate-dependent surface and groundwater sources.

Water Minister Simone McGurk announced the tailored water efficiency measures today, as part of National Water Week, which runs until 27 October.

In 2023-24, participating towns in the Goldfields saved around 28 million litres of water, while waterwise irrigation upgrades achieved significant savings at five Kalgoorlie-Boulder public schools.

This year, Water Corporation customers in each eligible community, can exchange two old inefficient showerheads for waterwise alternatives under a free Showerhead Swap Program.

For the first time, all Water Corporation scheme water customers in the North West - including those in communities not participating in the Waterwise Towns Program - will also be eligible for a rebate to replace a single flush toilet with a minimum WELS 4-star-rated dual flush system.

The offer, available from mid-November, is in response to heightened demand on water supplies following an extended hot, dry summer earlier this year.

Showerhead Swap is available until 31 May 2025, while stocks last.

Comments attributed to Water Minister Simone McGurk:

“Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program not only helps residents save on their water bills but also plays a crucial role in preserving water resources in regional WA, which are most constrained.

“We know climate change presents real challenges, particularly on traditional ground and surface water sources, and programs like this are key to helping us adapt and build resilience in our water schemes.

“In its 11th year, the program has saved an impressive 1.9 billion litres of water or around 856 Olympic-sized swimming pools.”

Comments attributed to Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:

“The water savings we’ve seen in the Goldfields Region in the past year alone demonstrate the collective power we have in safeguarding our precious drinking water supply.

“By participating in programs like the free Showerhead Swap, Goldfields residents can make a real difference - and I encourage locals to take advantage of the offers available and continue to build on these savings.”
