Water efficient showerhead

  • Eight North West towns eligible for Showerhead Swap and/or Waterwise Letters and/or Targeted Leak Engagement
  • All North West scheme water customers also eligible for Dual Flush Toilet Rebate
  • Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program to reach record 56 regional towns
  • Supports regional households to save precious water and reduce bills
  • Program focuses on towns reliant on independent surface and groundwater sources

Waterwise offers are now available to eligible residents in eight North West towns, helping save precious drinking water as the region faces a future with less rainfall.

Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program has this year expanded to a record 56 regional communities, where independent surface and groundwater sources are most at risk of the impacts of climate change.

Water Minister Simone McGurk announced the tailored water efficiency measures today, as part of National Water Week, which runs until 27 October.

In 2023-24, participating North West communities saved almost 30 million litres of water, with 305 free residential plumbing services, while irrigation upgrades and leak detection activities across seven non-residential sites resulted in significant savings.

This year, Water Corporation customers in each eligible North West community can exchange two old, inefficient showerheads for waterwise alternatives under a free Showerhead Swap Program.

In addition, several communities will receive comparative water use letters, while Water Corporation team members will be engaging with customers in Onslow and Halls Creek to assist with early leak detection.

For the first time, all Water Corporation scheme water customers in the North West - including those in communities not participating in the Waterwise Towns Program - will also be eligible for a rebate to replace a single flush toilet with a minimum WELS 4-star-rated dual flush system.

The offer, which is available from mid-November, is in response to heightened demand on water supplies following below average rainfall across the region this year.

Since 2013, the Waterwise Towns Program has saved 1.9 billion litres of drinking water State-wide, contributing to the long-term sustainability of Western Australia’s most vital resource.

Showerhead Swap is available until 31 May 2025, while stocks last.

Comments attributed to Water Minister Simone McGurk:

“Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program not only helps residents save on their water bills, but also plays a crucial role in preserving water resources in parts of regional WA where drinking water sources are most constrained.

“We know climate change presents real challenges, particularly on traditional ground and surface water sources, and programs like this are key to helping us adapt and build resilience in our water schemes.

“In its 11th year, the program has saved an impressive 1.9 billion litres of water, or around 856 Olympic-sized swimming pools. I encourage communities in this year’s program to take advantage of the available offers and continue to build on these savings.”

Comments attributed to Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:

“I encourage residents in the Pilbara to participate in programs like the free Showerhead Swap and comparative water use initiative so they can make a real difference.

“The water savings we’ve seen in the North West in the past year alone shows how by working together, we can safeguard our precious drinking water supply.”
