Work Health and Safety policy

Our Work Health and Safety (WHS) policy outlines our commitment to providing and maintaining best practice health and safety at workplaces under our control.

Safety essentials

Safety essentials provide guidance on what must be in place and the checks that must be done before commencing high risk activities. Our safety essentials are non-negotiable as nothing is more important to us than the safety of our people, contractors and community.

Guides

  • The Leader's Guide outlines the mandatory system requirements that must be in place to support the management of high risk activities.
  • The Field Guide is a tool for field workers to check mandatory requirements are in place. Note: The Field Guide is not mandatory for contractors, however the link is provided as an option to assist those in the field.

Health safety & environment requirements for contractors

The Health Safety and Environment Requirements for contractors outlines our procedures and general requirements for contractors working with us.

Previous versions of documents are available on request by emailing HSEsystems@watercorporation.com.au

We have a recent changes register for our health and safety documentation.

Contractor work authorities are required and must be available on site for the duration of the work. Standard notice period for a low impact work authority is five days. 2 - 6 weeks’ notice is required if the work is likely to cause a service disruption to customers or requires operational resources to support.

The Water Corporation representative (contract manager) will facilitate the work authority and notify the contractor once approved.

A contractor work authority is not required when the contractor is directly supervised by the relevant Water Corporation operations team.

Please note: Contractor work authority replaces Clearance to work. We are in a transition period with final cutover due 01 March 2025. While we are transitioning, it is permitted to use either old or new forms.

Contractors constructing new metallic pipelines or working near our existing metallic pipelines need to be aware of, and effectively manage electrical risk associated with the work. The documents below provide information relevant to this and need to be complied with.

Pipeline voltage mitigation

To reduce the risk of harm to members of the public at or adjacent to our construction sites, all construction work undertaken directly by us and our contractors require an assessment of risk to the public. Please refer to the following standard for more information:

Locking and tagging isolations saves lives by informing others that equipment is being serviced, thereby preventing unauthorised use of the equipment and uncontrolled release of energy.

LOTO must only be done by authorised people who have received the necessary training. For further information please refer to the following document. You must be familiar with this document and comply with the listed requirements when working on our sites.

Other permits may be required to undertake your work on our sites or assets. Your Water Corporation representative will advise you if these are required.
